To further enhance the public’s scientific literacy on drug safety and promote collaborative governance of drug safety across the province, thereby fostering a positive environment for drug safety, on November 14, the Guizhou Provincial Drug Administration held a press briefing for “Drug Safety Month,” themed “Safe Medication Use, Health for All.”

At the briefing, Lu Yuanfu, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Provincial Drug Administration and Director of Drug Safety, introduced this year’s “Safe Medication Month” publicity campaign in Guizhou Province and released safety tips for medication use.

The meeting pointed out that since 2023, the Guizhou Provincial Drug Administration has adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, upheld the fundamental principle of “the four strictest standards,” and thoroughly implemented the decisions and deployments of the provincial Party committee and provincial government as well as the work requirements of the Provincial Market Supervision Administration. It has coordinated and promoted key initiatives such as the campaign to consolidate and enhance drug safety, the special crackdown on medical device quality and safety, and the rectification of drug safety in rural areas. The administration has strengthened the identification and remediation of risks and hidden dangers in key products, critical links, major enterprises, and priority regions, intensified law enforcement and case handling efforts, introduced quarterly reports on cases, proactively released typical cases of drug safety, and continuously pushed forward the province’s drug regulatory work in greater depth.

The meeting emphasized that the responsibility for drug safety is as heavy as Mount Tai. As an important means of popularizing drug safety knowledge, the “National Drug Safety Month” has played a vital role in raising public awareness about drug safety and promoting collaborative governance by society. In 2023, Guizhou Province will organize a series of thematic activities—combining online and offline approaches—centered around the theme “Safe Medication Use, Health for the People.” These activities will include Public Open Days for Drug Testing, Surveys on Satisfaction with Drug Regulation, Public Awareness Campaigns on “Safe Medication Use,” “Safe Medication into Schools,” and “Safe Medication into Grassroots Communities.” By making full use of visual technologies and other innovative tools, the province aims to amplify the impact of its publicity efforts, disseminate concepts and practical knowledge on safe medication use to the general public, and highlight the progress made in drug safety regulation. This will help enhance public understanding and awareness of the province’s drug safety regulatory work, and strive to create an atmosphere of drug safety promotion driven by government initiatives, responsive corporate actions, media involvement, and active public participation, thereby establishing a collaborative governance and shared responsibility framework for drug safety.

Through this “Safe Medication Month” campaign, we will further enhance public awareness of safe medication practices, guide the pharmaceutical industry to strengthen management and self-discipline, and promote the sustained and healthy development of Guizhou Province’s pharmaceutical industry, thereby fostering a strong societal atmosphere of caring for health and using medications rationally.

Relevant media outlets from Guizhou Province, as well as the business divisions of the Provincial Drug Administration and its affiliated institutions, attended the meeting.
